ugh me either... those oversized arms on all of the sweaters are sooooooo unflattering. people will only look back at wearing that and think "wow, what a hideous trend..."

x love all of these photos :)

BS man. BS.

Not a fan either. It looked like a slew of track sweats and ankle boots with open toes and knee high socks.

I don't get the fascination.

love that you have an opinion where in the fashion industry everyone can go so mainstream and generic!

nah I think the hype is way on the mark, Im all over Wang.

I completely agree.

I mean, a varsity letterman's jacket with the letter "A" on it? Really Alexander Wang? Really?

Bring back the grunge. Incorporate S/S into it somehow. Don't give me this high school preppy quarterback's girlfriend head cheerleader garb.

oooh blasphemer! i dont get it either, but yer bloggin fanbase may lynch you for such comments.

sweatin' your YSL's still.

neither did i.

neither did i REALLY fall hopelessly in love with the last collection - it had a NOWness about it. and the anti-climax of his most recent collection solidifies this.

i do, however, enjoy your blogand the 1st and 2nd photos of this blog.

I completely DISAGREE. I think it pushes the wearer to think outside the box, by creating different cuts, shapes, the new collection asks you to get creative with how you put it together. The long braid is very feminine, and the makeup was light and soft. I think this collection was fun, and allows the wearer to put their own spin on the clothing. Feminine, boyish, rocker, simplistic. its your choice...

If a 'fashionista' can't figure out how to infuse their style into A.Wang pieces, she is no longer a fashionista.

lulu said...

I hope that last sentence wasn't directed at me.

I'm not quite sure how "out of the box" this collection is. I've seen all of these shapes before. I didn't care for the styling... too literal. And, in my opinion, the brilliance of AW has always been in the styling. The leather looked nice, and the sheer pieces were nice as well.

I didn't say I hated it, I didn't say it was terrible. It was just not very inspiring. Lo-fi. Bland.

Leaving your personal style up to designer, stylist, or editorial in a magazine is pretty bland. Where's the creativity?? I love seeing the designer style the season to, but that's his vision. I think he was abstracting his style from what we've been seeing lately. This past year or so Ladies have been getting edgier with a rock&roll infused, tougher, and grittier look. I think A.Wang built off that, and took it to a place it might go if fashion continue's on that bad ass chick vibe. Once you see the hardcore fashionista's putting their own spin on in it, I'm sure your mind will change.

I agree. I mean, it was nice to step away from the black, and the grunge/goth look that everyone and his brother have been wearing (including myself but I have for years) but at the same time I'm not sure if that's the direction we should necessarily be stepping.

To the anonymous fan of this AW collection: Just because something is "outside of the box" doesn't make it good. And it doesn't give Wang any credit that some "hardcore fashionista" as you call it could infuse her style into the clothes and make it desirable, because that applies to any piece of clothing. The most exquisite McQueen can be ruined by a bad wearer and the cheapest Hanes shirt can be made desirable by a good wearer. (although I'm not sure even the Darias and Sashas could make those huge footballer sleeves desirable) Sure, it's definitely trying to take a new direction from what he is known for, but whether he does that well or not is up to interpretation. He has built a huge fan base, and it is still going very strong- but it seems more and more they are mainly comprised of under-20 tween girls who want to look cool- nothing wrong with that, but he wants to be more than that. Whether he has it in him to succeed, we'll just have to see.

He is young and has room for improvement, and I think he has made a lot of very strong moves especially in styling and marketing up to this point, so I would not to dissect his collections as I would a McQueen or Chalayan- but I have to say, the hype is becoming a bit disturbing.

I am neutral on this blog but I appreciate Lulu's honest opinion. I feel that nobody in the blog world goes against Wang or Wasson- they seem to be unconditionally worshiped... I too think they are great and I'm sure they had to earn it but I say it again.. the hype is just too much.

Hey Lulu, I was wondering if you could recommend any places to sell used clothing in the SF/Berkeley area. I have a lot of vintage clothing I'd like to get off my hands, so it'd be great if you could pass on some names. I know of Buffalo Exchange, but that's about it.

Your honesty and no-bullshitness is refreshing!
There's no reason to label Wang's current collection as groundbreaking based solely on past collections. Where's the merit in that?

rose said...

um, i'd have to agree with your alexander wang comment. not going to elaborate...

who's in the last pic ?

Adri said...

I totally agree...his collection just reminded me of someone trying to make there clothes look more edgy. It just wasn't as exciting and ground breaking as his last collection.
